1936 Competition model


Note

Based on the Ulster model, an identical replica of the 1935 Scottish Six Day Trial model. Catalogued in 1936 and exhibited at the November 1935 Motorcycle show at Olympia.

Frame

Numbered 55701 to 58075 on a 1935 type frame. Integral seat stays with cam type chainstays for rear wheel adjustment. Special chainstays with pillion footrest and stand handle lugs not provided.

Wheels

WM1x21 (f), WM2x21 (r)#. Chrome rims with bolt on rear sprocket. Black painted spokes with NPB nipples.

Mudguards

Plain 5" chrome plated D section, unvalanced. Front with wire stays and tubular front stand. Rear with hinged rear tail section and lifting handle. Nail catchers to both guards.

Tanks

‘Aero’ petrol tank painted with lined panels with Enots reserve tap. Flat bottom to tank with small cut away adjacent to the frame tube for access to the central spark plug. Single central CEE-ESS type filler with front fitted petrol balance pipe. Two bolt damper arm fixing.

Engine

Numbered U1001 to U1600 (approx) - 4 valve 499cc with aluminium bronze open valve cylinder head, parallel inlet valves and radial exhaust. 14mm central plug. BTH KD1 D4 competition magneto and DM3G dynamo (optional). Oil feed to rear of cylinder. Cast alloy rocker cover with cast ’R’ motif. Reduced height internal crankcase weir (0.3" lower). 6:1 compression ratio.

Brakes

8” front and rear, NOT coupled with aluminium shoes. Duraluminium front brake plate.

Electrics (optional)

Miller 7” headlamp with No 832 8-0-8 'Lighthouse' ammeter and 29E rear lamp. Exide battery. DM3G belt driven dynamo.

Transmission

4 speed ISDT ratio gearbox with foot change on LHS. Aluminium oil bath chaincase with ‘R’ on dome and separate filler on shock absorber dome#. Heavyweight clutch.

Carburetter

Amal type 29/146 with Binks twist grip control and drip tray. Original settings: Main jet 160, slide 29/5, needle jet 109, needle position 3. Smiths Petroflex fuel line.

Exhaust system

Twin 1 3/4" upswept exhaust pipes with leg shields into barrel silencers and tailpipes with detachable absorber tubes.

Standard Fittings

Battery cover, licence holder, 7/8” handlebars with special competition bend. Long front brake lever.  Steering damper and handwheel operated fork shock absorber. D section forks with reduced trail lower fork link. Cover to front engine plates. Engine sump bash plate extending rearwards under the gearbox. Rear stand. Competition footrests with no rubbers and flange to outer end to prevent foot slippage. Large leather fronted toolbox mounted on drive side to the rear mudguard stays

Extras

Chrome plated panel to petrol tank. WM3 x 19" rear wheel rim. 2.5" 8 day clock in steering damper arm.
