Yet more Rudgespares (TM) warnings 1 Week, 1 Day ago
Hi,2 people have now reported to me that the half timing pinions supplied by Rudgespares do not fit. RW did selectively assemble the timing gears but from experience original items do have a high compatibility rate. Having seen a picture of the Rudgespares supplied item it is obvious the tooth profile is incorrect. If you have bought one of these items for the 1931-9 350cc/500cc machines and have not fitted it, I would suggest you compare it with a genuine article as soon as possible and return it if you too find the same issue.
In addition, I understand that Rudgespares have (or have on order) pistons described as '2850 suitable for Specials 1929-39' I would like to point out that 1929-33 pistons had a wide little end and 1934-39 a narrower one to suit the conrods. In addition, Special pistons from 1936 were 84.5mm as standard not 85mm so if you intend to purchase said item from Rudgespares, please clarify the size you need and gudgeon pin width first - Colin

Hi, having now seen a picture of the replacement Pistons, it appears that the Special version has the large ‘slice’ cutouts of the original 2850 Heplex which was a copy of the RW item. These cut out slices were dropped by RW and Heplex in 1932 and using these pistons in later engines will have compression ratio implications. Colin
