Up to date technical help from Rudge experts...

Sam E Radial is on hand to answer those nagging technical questions like "how many big end rollers should I use on my 1930 Special?".

The 1930 big end was indirectly fed with oil using drillings in the timing side axle and flywheel with the oil exiting adjacent to the crankpin. When first introduced, the big end had 12 rollers (6 per cage half) but this was changed very quickly to 14 (7 per cage half) to increase the load area. Unfortunately the spares list shows 12 rollers, which was true for the very early production machines but most machines have the uprated 14 roller cages. So to answer your question -in all probability 14! As an aside, the cage was changed in 1933 (the last year of this big end design) but still contained 14 rollers. Now there's a thing!
